If the appendix becomes blocked or ruptured, it can put the rest of the body at severe risk of infection (not to mention cause acute pain). Fortunately, Dr Cody and his team can provide appendix removal surgery (an appendectomy) to help address the issue.
The facilities are equipped to accommodate open and laparoscopic appendicectomy as needed. The former involves an incision being made to the abdomen so that the appendix can be removed. The latter requires one to three small cuts so that a camera and other relevant tools can be inserted. It also grants, in most cases, a quicker recovery time.
If you suffer from hernia, Dr Cody and his team will do all they can to assist. Ventral, umbilical, epigastric and Inguinal hernias can be treated—with stay times varying, depending on your needs.
After hernia surgery, it is highly recommended that you avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting. You should also report to a doctor as soon as possible if you have difficulty passing urine.
Hernias can have a variety of causes. The most common cause is simply weakness in the abdominal wall, which can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired later in life. Other possible causes include injury to the abdominal area, injuries caused by lifting heavy objects, chronic constipation or diarrhea and fluid in the abdomen (ascites). Previous surgery in the abdominal area may also cause hernias.
There are a few different circumstances under which an appendicectomy may be required. The most common reason is appendicitis, or inflammation of the appendix. This can be caused by a variety of things, including infection, blockage or leakage. Other less common reasons for needing an appendicectomy include cancers or tumours of the appendix, abnormal growths or injuries to the area.
